Want to get more involved? Consider some opportunities within and outside of Student Wellness!
5K/10K Running Coaches
Each spring, we recruit Running Coaches for our 5k/10k Training Program! These students lead runs on campus 2-3 times per week to help their fellow students prepare for the Ready, Set, Glow 5K at the end of April.
Student Wellness works closely with the University of Iowa Body Image and Eating Disorder Awareness (BIEDA) student organization. BIEDAâs mission is to encourage a positive, sustainable lifestyle through body image acceptance and eating disorder awareness to assist those struggling with identification of helpful resources.
As Health Ninjas, students influence friends and peers to make healthy choices. They are trained and equipped with interesting health knowledge that may be used in everyday conversations. Through these conversations, healthy practices are supported and myths are dispelled.
Internships & Practicums
Student Wellness provides a variety of internship and practicum opportunities for students interested in obtaining experience in the college health environment. Opportunities are available for Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters. Practicum students and interns are required to register the experience for academic credit (usually through their academic department or the Career Center).
Red Watch Band Instructors
Our Red Watch Band training program focuses on knowledge, skill, and confidence building regarding preventing death from alcohol overdose. We have around 10-15 student facilitators to assist our staff with the program.
Student Health Advisory Committee
The Student Health Advisory Committee (SHAC) is a student organization that provides feedback on various programming issues, wellness and clinical services, and events. The organization is engaged in outreach projects, including programming to increase student awareness of health resources, and advocacy to address concerns voiced by the student body. SHAC aims to inform the campus community of the services offered by Student Health and Student Wellness and to encourage wellness and health consciousness.
